The Ambassador: Resolution
by Terri Morgan
Beth arrives on Ras 2 to begin training. She is immediately confronted with what Sentar’s positions as the Master of the House of Tu and Leader of the Council of Nine mean. He is highly visible and well-respected. Beth has trouble. Sentar moves her into a dorm with Dorana and Tebrin. They quickly become friends. Sentar begins teaching Beth.

The Doctor has gone to Vega 3 to help Galen pack his house. Galen is going to stay on Ras 2 with the magical books at the Library at Nareem. He’s not sure yet. But he thinks Beth might be able to hold the books. The Ambassador has gone out on the Magellan. She returns with bad news. The Olmeri are advancing.
The Ambassador finally gets approval to retire. She begins saying goodbye. She talks with President Smbarak about taking Galen for one last ride around the Local Neighborhood. The High Council unanimously agrees.
They take Galen for the ride of a lifetime, have lunch, and talk about old times. It’s a grand trip. They had gotten permission to move slowly through the Sol system, but they can’t stop. The Magellan is too big. Galen and Maru are heartbroken. Kell suggests they park the Magellan near Pluto. He offers to take them to Earth on his cruiser. They go, come back, and continue on to Ras 2.
The stories offer a rare glimpse into the inner world of traditional martial arts training.
They focus on the good guys, their training, and their character. They are human stories about how we learn, grow, develop our skills, and then pass on what we have learned to the next generations.
The stories are written for adults at a high-school reading level. Using movie ratings, they would be G/PG-rated. Themes include philosophical questions – is this the right thing to do? how do we gain trust? what is ‘good’ character? There are nuances (no profanity) in the ways the characters talk with each other that younger children would not understand without explanations. Curious teens and young adults will like the stories quite a lot.
Throughout the stories, the key idea is that what may seem too difficult isn’t, not when we have good friends. The focus is on taking care of each other, what honor, integrity, honesty, and kindness mean, how we pass on what we have learned and bring up the next generations, and all sorts of positive character questions that are fundamental to the traditional martial arts.
